John Somers-Cocks
(1907-1995)


John Somers-Cocks was born in London in 1907 and studied at Trinity College of Music and the Royal College of Music (1926-32). he studied organ with Dr. Thalben-Ball; piano with Arthur Alexander and composition with Ralph Vaughan-Williams. He became the organist and choirmaster at Westonbirt School (1935-9); Director of Music at Epsom College (1949-54); and was appointed Professor of harmony and composition at the Royal College of Music from 1967-1977.
